I have been working in the construction industry for 2 years under a general contractor. I am wanting to get into consulting and my ideal role would be something like an Associate in Major Projects Advisory with KPMG. I’m curious to know which firms/companies have positions and departments like the one mentioned that I could apply for?
Deloitte audit Vs. Grant Thornton Tax. I have an offer from Grant Thornton and From Deloitte as an Intern this summer. Deloitte is the bigger name and pays a bit better but Grant Thronton has way nicer people and known to have a way better cultre and work environment. What should I do? Where should I go?Deloitte Grant Thornton

In house is amazing. No billable hours trumps everything for me 😂
You sold me on no billables 😍

Well, you lose OT. I recommend you transition into legal Ops if you go in house. The pay is better!
In house all the way! Overall work life balance is better, perks, PTO and health insurance amazing, and you develop a lot of multifaceted skills because your work across multiple different departments. Plus you have more opportunities to transition roles or into a different department if you wanted to.
I went in-house for a tech company a couple months ago and never looked back! Can I ask what type of company is for the in-house role?
I’ve worked in BigLaw (on east coast and west coast) as well as in house for a FAANG. I’ve also interviewed with smaller tech companies.
For IP the work may be similar to what you do at a firm. I don’t think you need any specialized knowledge that you can’t gain in the job.
I’ve found that the best pay for in-house is typically going to be at non-FAANG tech companies. They have more of a need for people that can wear many hats versus Big Tech where the roles are more defined.
All that said, in-house is better pretty much anywhere you go for the reasons listed above. Just don’t go to Amazon, they will make you wish you still worked in Big Law.
I’ve worked in both Big Law and now in-house, and aside from losing OT, going in-house was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Before my decision to go in the house, I was ready to leave the paralegal profession altogether. Heaven forbid if I lose my in-house job and have to go back to a law firm.

Do paralegals in the USA regularly receive overtime?

*a couple of firms who pay overtime*
In-house for work life balance and better ability to transcend outside of just “being in legal”. You also build a brand of being a go-to, a lot of people are not familiar with legal issues even at the executive level (they just know legal must be involved) haha, so you kinda earn your keep.
Law firms definitely invest in your skills and keep your mind sharp with all the new programs and contract Managment techniques due to always being in the know with Gov/State changes. If you are saavy and master that at a firm first and know how to use programs, in-house will be the best.

What kind of in house job? Because ID really sucked.
I also have only worked biglaw (commercial lit) and really want to go in house. Actually I want to completely upend my career trajectory and go into transactional corporate bc I got pigeonholed too early then realized I did NOT like this field. Lol. Plus the no billable hours. I say make the switch.
Im in the same boat as you, except I’m in civil lit and want to switch to transactional corporate as well. I’ve come to hate nearly every aspect of litigation lol
