I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

Worked with an agent on my first deal, great. Second deal now and I’m getting my license myself. I’d like to use her as a backboard for ideas and don’t mind giving her a “finders fee” or something but would like to capture the commissions myself. What would be the normal way to have this convo?

Left PA and started industry remotely. Haven’t been in the office. Met my team one time. Tips are to always be on video for even the smallest of calls. Take a ridiculous amount of notes. In downtime, go through your notes and come up with questions by reperforming old work. Set up recurring question sessions with your team so you know what to do next time. Set up performance meetings even monthly because it’s hard to get a gauge on your performance

A company didn’t follow through with a scheduled intro phone call. I emailed during the time scheduled to see if something had come up & after as well to reschedule. No one answered me or followed up. I can’t help but feel like this is a little red flag. If you can’t follow though on an intro call… what’s your HR & the rest of the company doing? 😬

How would you suggest dealing with a toxic boss? They gossip and seem to purposely be vague about critical information, likely so they can't be held accountable.

I’ve been working for a small investment firm for about a year and am having some issues with my boss. We have a weekly check-in but he’s ALWAYS 2-3 hours late, or skips the meeting altogether without warning. He also never replies to any of the emails I send. I already spoke with him about these issues, but things haven’t really changed. I really like the work I do but I’m starting to feel frustrated about the situation. Any advice? In a meeting we a client, we were looking at a stock image of a smiling Black man holding a baseball bat while wearing a hoodie. The client comments that it’s the wrong way to hold a bat. Cool. But, then follows up and says, “Also, he just looks aggressive. Like, this person would definitely attack me and my family.” I was shocked. But, apparently, I was the only one. Because everyone else on the call laughed. They were all white except for my partner who is Mexican. But, he still chuckled.
