I got laid off at 62 and turned 63 2 weeks later. I took a few months off to figure out what I wanted to do, but as soon as I posted my resume it received a lot of attention. 2 things…you can’t be discriminated for your age and companies are looking for seasoned and competent admins.
Yes, law is they can't discriminate because of my age but there is not a way to prove it when that happens. Example: I made it through 2 rounds at a Fortune 100 company and interviews went well. But yesterday I checked the status of the positions I've applied to and see all 4 of them marked as "No Longer in Consideration". I exceed the qualifications for all of them. How do I proof they decided I was too old to hire. 😡
Not sure, but one tip is to only include your last 10-20 years of work experience on your resume, and if you have a college degree on it, leave off the graduation year. That way they won't know your age until your interview.
Then they ask "how much administrative assistant experience do you have?" And BOOM they can guess your age. They discriminate but don't really do so overtly
