I think it takes a laid back/non ocd personality type to really pull off that life. Not everyone can do it.
My friend is a digital nomad. For her it’s because she doesn’t work a full time job. Her day is classified in 3: thinking time away from laptop doing something semi/mindless (walking, working out, meal times), laptop time producing material, and then actually not working.
(She’s currently in Indonesia earning a UK premium consultant rate so a part time job pays the same as/more than a local full time.)
I would say she is happy enough. Instead of trying to progress her career, she is mostly just interested in work leading to more work. She tries to do a course every year to keep “in the know” and says the pandemic has been brilliant for virtual networking. I haven’t heard any particular complaints so far — she seems very much working to live, not living to work.
I always think it must be a job that can be done on one small laptop screen.

Possibly aside from routine I can say I don’t need any of that. Usually I’m sitting on my couch working w just my laptop.
I think everyone needs routine or at least rituals to get them going or keep them going. Wfh nomads probably have these rituals as well. But it’s really just whatever you’re comfortable with. I like nice desks, i like nice chairs, I’m a programmer so I like second/third/fourth monitors, ect ect. But I’m comfy enough doing my work on my couch or anywhere I want/need to be. It’s all preference
