Yea.... Dallas and Houston aren’t exactly suburbs of each other....
This should give you an idea of how big Texas is compared to silly states like Connecticut.
Houston and Dallas are farther apart than DC and NYC, physically at least
With dollars usually
Plenty of clients in both locations and they can save in travel costs
DFW is actually larger than CT and RI combined
Each of those cities have people in them. People = clients and people = hires.
Long term cost cutting.
There is no need to justify it, they go where they have a critical mass of customers.
Houston is oil and gas, Dallas is retail and telecom, Detroit is auto, NJ is Pharma, NYC BFS.... as a gross generalization. But yet you don’t say LA/San Fran or San Fran/Seattle.
Are you familiar with the concept of clusters of innovation or global clusters of innovation?
As a Houston resident, people from further away don’t realize how far apart we are from DFW (or Austin/San Antonio). Considering many firms keep at least 2-3 offices in SF, NYC, DC (each), it makes sense
Like M1
Why do firms have offices in New York and Boston? 🙃
FYI - roughly same distance between Dallas and Houston
Nothing to add of value here except....#ClearEyesFullHearts #TexasForever
You can attract talent that you might not be able to otherwise. Also, there are some insular places (hi Detroit!) where they want one of their own. Also, if you’re in a smaller office you’re less likely to leave (at least that’s the metrics I’ve seen).
So the cost of lease plus all office perks outweighs travel, huh? Interesting
Thanks guys. I learn so much from this app
You must not be familiar with Texas... everything is far apart here
Not all service lines are as travel reliant as yours. All of those cities, not to mention many smaller cities, are large enough to justify having an office for the assurance practice alone
Ok guys i get it. Im an idiot. Sorry ✌🏻
I understand your questioning of having and NYC and NJ office since they are miles apart... but living in Detroit, I can’t easily get in my car/ grab a flight and be in Chicago in 2 hours. We also have 600+ employees in our Detroit office, hence costs of flying all of those people to a location every week if they didn’t WFH far exceeds the cost of an office building
Totally separate markets
Houston is O&G, NYC is Fin Services and Latge CPG, Dallas is hybrid, Chicago is hybrid, Detroit is Auto, etc.
If you are the Ford LAP, you will live in Detroit. It just what it takes to best serve those clients.
Thank you Deloitte 5. I was waiting for someone to say that. Shouldn’t that be obvious to consults?
Guys, why do we have multiple offices? Can't we have one big building in center of the US, say St. Louis? Think of all the leasing costs we could save.
