I see no problem with it as long as it is clearly labeled. Deceiving users is a way to generate bad feelings, and it must be avoided. But if they know what it is, and that it is supporting the community financially, then I see no problem with it.
That's a great question. As a user, on some platforms it annoys me and on others I don't think I even notice it. So maybe it all depends on the placement or type of advertisements? I think that LinkedIn is one of the cleanest platforms for sharing relevant news...paid or not.
