Depending on the departments relationship the the external auditor you could always ask them. If you've gone through the IPO and need SOX I imagine someone might have already asked so they could create synergies for internal controls testing
The firm has a sampling methodology in KAM which you can find on Alex, a resource library for accounting, audit, risk management, etc..

Dollar value sampling = MUS. I know that article doesn’t go much into the methodology but it’s a start, the academic papers may be more helpful in that regard
