So I’m probably thinking too much. But I’m looking to leave public accounting and have an opportunity with internal audit. I want to make sure where I go I have good opportunities to advance and if needed be marketable to other companies. Do you think internal audit makes you more or less marketable to other opportunities in the future?

I just started in an IA role and think it will make me more marketable in what I what to achieve, but if you want to one day be a controller or CFO then I think it could make you less marketable.

like

I’ve been an in IA most of my career. Absolutely less marketable. Especially if you work in multiple companies that have no manager level. I have been pigeon hold in this field for nearly two decades. If there is no manager level role, you are skipped over for any director level roles elsewhere.

The company is a big shot but I am literally getting paid less than what I used to make 10 years ago. Should I try to move within or look outside?

Also needs references if you can.

My boss asked me what id like to do moving forward at work. The department im in has gone under many changes the past few months. I was really hoping the business would put me in a place they “need” me but instead it’s up to me…
My goal is to reach the top, climb the ladder and one day be CEO. I have a lot of outside influences that make this a possible venture.
I’m currently in sales but don’t know if the right path is to continue in.
What should I say to my boss, knowing I’m on right path?
