What’s the hierarchy in internal audit? It looks like director requires only about 10 years of experience. What’s after that? Do people just stay at that level for a while?

Depends on company. At Cap 1, the hierarchy is: Director, Sr. Director, VP, MVP, CAE. I've seen folks be director for years before making it to Sr. Director and have also seen folks take so long to become VP. So, the typical 2-3 year promo for the most part doesn't apply to that group. At least from what I've seen at Cap 1.

CAE (could be same as director depending on the company) could also potentially see CIO

Once you make it to head of ia, your path can still continue within IA by leading IA functions at larger, global firms.

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].
