One picture changed my mind about potluck meals. That includes anything from a regular person, not a professional, regulated business. The picture was of a counter top with lots of food prepared and a woman in the background preparing something else. Her cat decided to lay on the counter by the food. The big fluffy tale of the cat was laying squarely in an already prepared dish. This is a real occurrence, people are not always mindful of contaminants. I always gently pass on offers.
I love the thought of homemade food, but not all of us have the same hygiene and safety standards. Imagine somebody with a severe allergy. It’s too risky.
I have a strict diet because of my health condition, so I politely accept it but I don't eat it. I figure it's rude to turn it down but I'm under no obligation to consume things made by other people.
I usually accept it but am vary about eating it. It’s better to be safe than sorry so I usually don’t eat it. I know that sounds mean but I can’t afford getting food poisoning.
I generally avoid homemade food. Sometimes people in the office will bring something in, and I prefer not to eat it. I guess I'm uptight about that, I like to know how things are prepared, and I don't want to get sick from eating something.

Policies vary by organisation. Some allow small tokens while others discourage it due to safety or ethical concerns. I wouldn't if I was on the fence

I would take it but not eat it personally.
