How do you fight for the position you want when the other two candidates are older, but not necessarily a better fit for the role?

Good question, not sure

You have to showcase that you have unique knowledge, experience, education, skills, insights, etc. that sets you apart from the other candidates. If you can do that successfully, then there is no reason why you can’t win this job role over the other candidates.

Usually people attribute age with authority, so you just need to demonstrate you have the skills to succeed

Be confident, it might be impossible to overtake age, but most people respect confidence and experience

Demonstrate your either more qualified or a better fit for the role I'll assume it's a managerial position and if that's the case it's more about personality rather than the actual qualifications as an example if either of the two older gentlemen are prone to outbursts or are incredibly rigid in there thought process people like that are generally terrible managers maybe you could try emphasizing the point that you're personality fits the role far better than the other 2 candidates

I had to eat a lot of class years when joining big law. I didn’t go T14, didn’t get a summer job in big law, had to work my way up and finally got here. I’m at a great firm doing the exact work I like doing. Now, all around me, colleagues who graduated with me or after me are getting promoted and I’m still a long ways away. They all deserve it. But I can’t help but feel jealous and angry about the uncertainty ahead of whether I’ll make it there and how long it will take. Can anyone relate?

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.
