Did TBWA/Wildtype have layoffs??
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Layoffs during the holidays is very difficult, and if they truly can't wait until the new year, I recommend having a generous exit package that includes:
1. Releasing them in Dec but regular pay through end of year or even mid of January.
2. Remain eligible for bonus payout since they are losing job through no fault of their own
3. Generous severance package AND COBRA coverage for up to six months, paid by the employer
4. Outplacement program
5. Empathy and respect by leaders/People team

That’s great, appreciate that thank you😊
It is EXTREMELY difficult to navigate. I was laid off one year, two weeks before Christmas. They also withheld my Christmas bonus which really sucked. Best you can do is navigate it the best you can.

Oh no that’s awful, I hope you managed to find something soon after!

Im currently experiencing this. We have a project that is wrapping up and our needs our significantly decreasing. We started the 1st round of layoffs on Friday. It's definitely challenging given the time pf year and I know the people we are letting go are barley getting by as it is so it ia a hard situation to navigate. I don't think there's an easy way to navigate. We have been providing them with information on how to file for unemployment. Following to see if anyone has any good tips.

End of year layoffs are always emotionally sharp. In my experience, the only way to handle them humanely is with clear communication, timely information, and real support. Silence and confusion are what cause the most harm.

Yes that’s very true, that’s the least we can do.
