The feelings say it all. Either you have an earnest one on one with someone you trust about the way you’re feeling and what can be done to improve it or abandon ship.
Don't quit one year in, at least without something lined up, when you have that kind of history tbh
Right. Because you likely won’t be able to use them as a reference. I had a similar experience at a past in-house job. I left because it was a dead end and my boss kept holding me back. I couldn’t use him as a reference because of HR blackmailing me after I left that they would disclose everything I said about the legal dept in what I thought was a private exit survey, which is exactly what happened.
I was in a few firms, including getting laid off from one, and never felt truly at ease for more than a week at a time. I eventually went in house and it's been a highly positive change
Law firms are Not It for a lot of people - if that might be you, I'd start trying to put your thoughts into paper to figure out your priorities and what you can need to not/have in a job.
Agreed with A2, don't quit until you've got something else lined up
Same experience as legal counsel 1.
why were you fired if you don’t mind me asking?
i wouldn’t leave your current job without something lined up. the job market is not fantastic, and based on what you wrote in your post, you don’t have the best work history/resume (lay off isn’t your fault; unsure why you were terminated at the other firm).
i would start putting feelers out for a new position and suck it up at your current position until you secure something new. use this as a learning experience, particularly for what to ask in an interview to determine whether a firm is the right fit for you.
I would also just like to point out that I’m less than five years in. I’ve only been practicing a few years. I feel like my skill and acumen is where it should be.
I agree with others that you need to listen to your feelings. This seems like not the best fit for you. Start actively applying ASAP! If possible, I strongly recommend waiting to leave until you have your next position lined up.
If you’re making a post like this, then probably not a good fit
Just quit bro. If they’re truly yelling, your mental and physical health will decline. Also throw them under the bus. Do it with an anonymous account. Change doesn’t happen unless you contribute, and these are small ways you can inch toward balancing the moral ledger.
