How do you not get ripped off by contractors? I had 4 electricians quote me 2k for a job. My dad got on the phone and explained he knew exactly the effort required and material cost and got 2 of them down to sub 1k. How do I gain this knowledge/ability?

Are you a younger person? Unfortunately, contractors know when they can take advantage of someone based on the questions you ask. A lot just comes with experience. I learned a lot just by doing side jobs with my dad growing up

Another option is to work in like property management, development, and/or construction. You could probably also volunteer for like Habitat for Humanity, so something like that. I don’t personally know how to do any construction work and have no one in my family that has worked in a trade, but I’ve worked in commercial property management so I’ve been exposed to a lot of building development, building out of tenant spaces, maintenance and repairs on buildings, etc.
You just have to get exposure in those areas so you can learn what it really takes and how much things really cost.

Thoughts on convincing gf to stay? 27M dating 28F for ~1.5 years. We knew each other in HS and reconnected during the pandemic. Everything was so connected, compatible and hot, and we planned a life together. We thought we met the loves of our lives. We moved to NYC in January. Lost intimacy and connection. She’s unwilling to work on things. Such a genuinely talented and beautiful woman, but has trust issues and depression from being overworked. Thoughts on convincing vs surrendering / leaving?

So stressed out and we keep delaying move in. 🤯😱😭
