How fast can career progression happen in technical roles? While exploring different opportunities, I have noticed that promotion paths vary widely between companies and teams. Some professionals seem to advance through strong project contributions, while others move up after leading initiatives and demonstrating broader impact. In your experience, is promotion driven more by individual execution or by taking ownership and leading projects?

How fast CAN they happen? In the perfect environment, very fast.

How fast is LIKELY to happen? Not too fast.

I’d say leading a successful project across a finish line or hitting a major benchmark is a great way to get noticed, but that usually takes time to happen in very short order.

like

You're right leading something across the finish line gets noticed. It's just hard to lead anything when you're deep in execution.

I’ve seen promotions have been incredibly fast with growing companies or startups or acquisitions. But I’ve also seen people keep the same job and receive no title increase for a decade, but they did get pay increase. It depends what you’re looking for.

like

That's the real split. Startups move fast. Big companies? You can do the same job for a decade with a nice pay bump and zero title change. Neither is wrong, it just depends on what you want.

Depends on how lucky you get with your manager, team, scope, project impact, visibility and promotion budgets

like

Luck is the variable no one puts on the promo doc. Right manager, right project, right budget timing. You can do everything right and still wait.

I think most people in this bowl are just interested in keeping a job much less worrying about promotions.

like

Honestly? that's fair. A lot of us are just trying to stay employed right now. Promotions feel like a luxury when layoffs are still fresh.

I am defending an eviction for a client who has given possession of the property (as of Nov. 30). Plaintiff’s complaint has one claim – possession. They did request relief for attorney’s fees. NJT/Final Hearing commenced 10/27, was only 30 min and was therefore continued to 12/20. Plaintiff had counsel at that time but they are no longer represented.  I want to file something notifying Court that Plaintiff claim is now moot, making sure that judgment is not entered that hurts (cont'd)..

I feel like gay men especially are constantly discriminated against in the workplace. I have been turned down for a promotion, yet again, in favor of a married heterosexual with kids. This has been the story of my career. Have superior experience - stellar reviews - people fighting to get on to my team because our team is great and I treat everyone well. This is so frustrating. Again and again, it’s a culture of parents helping other parents. No gays in upper level mgmt in our office.

Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.

I am looking to move because for some reason I am hand-held a lot and given simpler tasks, so I am getting bored and want more challenging / much more fast paced environment. Is there a better way to frame my answer?

I want to retire but I'm in my early 40's. My husband thinks I'm selfish because most of our luxury spending money comes from me. I'm burnt-out in this business and don't want to work anymore. I don't mind not going on luxurious vacations anymore and cutting back on our expenses. I keep seeing my loved ones die at fairly young ages. I want to enjoy what is left of my life. I'm perfectly fine with scalling back. What do you think? Am I being selfish for wanting to be a housewife?

Hi there, If anyone knows of any leads for hiring Customer Success Managers in the tech industry, please feel free to reach out. I am wanting to transition from 5 years of technology retail sales experience. Within one years i was promoted from a Sales Consultant, to Assistant Manager, and one year later to Store Manager. I am customer first professional, always focusing on building the relationship with the customer.

Any help is appreciated!

This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.
