2020 was the best year my firm ever had. 2021 not so much.

Plaintiffs PI and med mal here in NY (not NYC). 2020 ended up being great. 2021 was rough. Like real rough. 2022 is shaping up to be one of the best years we've ever had. *Shrugs*

like

For perspective. I've brought in so far in 2022 what I brought in all of 2021 in fees.

like

Plaintiff-side PI that is the biggest firm in its region in NY (not NYC). 2020 was fine, 2021 was not so great, but this year has been crazy so far. A lot of 7 figure settlements already and we aren’t even in March yet.

like

Why was 2021 so bad? Defense side here and I didn’t notice any lower number of cases or settlements amounts on our side. Seemed very busy.

Yeah, that was also an issue- adjusters were calling my bluff with things since they knew everything was delayed.

I'm also finding defense attorneys are being bigger assholes than normal. Acting like they are personally writing the checks. Making motions on non motion cases, etc. Just to churn it

The defense attorneys are having to get creative to bill sufficient hours. Zoom has hurt them. They don't get to bill for travel time nor court time. Also harder for them to double bill during mediations like they're used to. This is coming from a Plaintiff's lawyer.

I have applied to one of the roles about 10 days back and I didn't recieve any calls regarding my screening or interview.

Can someone tell me how many days does it take for the initial screening to happen after applying.

Also, how much time will it take for all the process to happen ( screening + interview + final discussion).

Thanks in advance

Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. However I noticed there was an internal candidate who has been there for few years and interviewed that’s a veteran. I feel my chances just sank and want to gauge thoughts.

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. I’m curious is anyone else having difficulties play some candidates like this? At this point I’m starting to think it’s racial or her sex based of the lack of interest in this candidate. Any thoughts?

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

Bad faith lawyers out there- do you have success getting extracontractuals with blown policies that were achieved via technicalities or borderline deceptive set-ups? Do juries punish a carrier when their check is lost the mail due to a hurricane and a day late or some poor defense attorney accidentally left one line off of a release?

I’m a 3L applying in NYC for post grad employment. Which plaintiffs PI/Med firms have the best opportunities for a junior? Everything I find, including my past summer job, is a small shop with 3 partners max and a handful of established associates. I would really like plaintiffs side.

New to PI. I filed suit and know policy limits ($500k). I want $1M but I have to live in reality. Insurance company wants to know if I have a demand. Is there any reason why I’d demand more than the policy limits?

For Plaintiff's attorneys, how big is your caseload? What kind of cases are the majority of them and are they in suit? I am currently handling 150+ mostly MVAs and premise liability cases, just about all in suit, (on top of about 10 DUIs and other small traffic matters) and I feel like I'm drowning and looking to jump ship. What is normal/to be expected? In NYC area if that matters

I have a dumb question... I have my first jury trial coming up in a few months. It's a 3-day auto accident trial. I'm the plaintiff attorney. My question is, should I have my client present the entire three days, or am I okay to tell them that they're fine to leave after they testify?

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

My firm offers very generous commission splits for cases that I bring in. What are good ways for a young plaintiffs attorney with no name recognition to bring in cases?

I received a job offer from a PI firm (MVA and tractor trailer cases) in Houston, Texas; the bonus proposed was 2.5% of attorney’s fees for any cases settled each quarter. We are assigned 50 cases a quarter and the top attorney clears $25K each quarter. This is my first time working at a PI firm. Can anyone share any guidance? Is 2.5% industry standard? Is it realistic to settle/resolve that many cases? I am trying to learn more about this niche before I counter-offer and attempt to negotiate.

Any experience working @ Chad Jones law?
I’m currently discontent with my income.
(3rd year. Salary=80k and no performance incentive. I brought in $1.4mm AFTER partners claimed over half of fees on my big cases.)
I see CJL offers an incentive+ base but I’m curious about that structure.
Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?
