How have you witnessed effective project management in software engineering? I have seen so many different versions of how this role shows up in our role, some good and some bad.

Yes, I’ve seen and been effective project management and software engineering.

Project managers come with their own levels of competency and effectiveness.

You learn your team, plan well, and encourage them to be realistic in that estimates and expectations of themselves and the team.

That’s awesome! Glad to hear

Depends how effective the person is at escalating issues, if they sit on them then things get delayed

That’s true, a very important part of the job

Anything more complicated than a Kanban board is ineffective. Especially if agile poker is involved.

Anything using ADO is ineffective.

I’ve actually been embracing the agile spent method. When it’s a two week sprint you can help plan out the work and the people doing it

Hello! Looking at an opportunity with established startup in UK that's just been acquired by a large co. I'm US based and my salary is around $250k (NYC) -I've been asked my expectation without the startup giving me a range to work from (though I've asked). I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co. Any advice?

Should I specialize in Blockchain or AI? I’m a freshman in a CS degree and I can’t decide. My main argument to choose blockchain is the easy entry with little experience and high salary, I plan on growing my skills during the bear market and get a job once the market recovers. Regarding AI, I find this field fascinating but I feel like it requires a lot of experience, degrees and diplomas.

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

What do you think about switching tech stacks vs becoming an expert in one stack? I am a backend Java engineer, and have solely used Java since I've started my software engineering career about 2 years ago. I don't know whether I should explore other tech stacks while I'm young, or instead focus on becoming a Java expert, given that I enjoy working in Java.
