Honestly 45 is max

Definitely for taking something new on. I’m apt to say no between 30/35 depending on what my ongoing clients are looking like.

like

It truly depends. What’s the most I can work? Had back to back >120 weeks before which was not a good time but it’s doable. When do I start saying no to anything new? 50.

like

A1 let’s hope it stays in the land of make believe for you. Not a good time.

If you’re consistently billing 40+, or expect to be at least that busy soon, that’s at capacity for NEW matters, which I think what you’re asking. But you don’t turn down work on EXISTING matters.

like

Depends who’s trying to staff me on something. If I like working with them I’d say capacity is like 50, if I don’t like working with them 40.

like

If I don’t like them capacity is 30-35

Travelling to NYC in November for the first time and there's a reasonably priced airbnb in Central Harlem. Is that a safe area for 4 females to roam around late at night? I also read on Reddit that short term rentals in NYC are illegal...? Is that true? Should I avoid Airbnbs?

Hey gang. If you exited BL or are looking to exit, where did you go and, more importantly, how did you figure out the path? I sometimes feel like career steps after BL for most associates are organic and less deliberate. But I’m lost with where to go next with my career. Entering fourth year PE M&A associate. Ready to leave.

Thoughts on recording meetings. In Texas and have ADHD. I’ve been recording internal meetings for the past couple of weeks and my work product has improved exponentially. What can a junior associate do about a mid-level that constantly asks questions about things they were cc’d on, sends dozens of piecemeal emails and is generally just super high strung and needs everything right away?? No other mid-levels I’ve worked with act this way and this individual I’m working with is driving me insane and I’ve spent countless hours attaching emails and saying “as explained in the attached email…”

My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. Want some sort of work life balance and wondering if the “lower ranked” big law firms offer this? Could just be my fantasy though…

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?
