I took NALA courses and found them unhelpful and not worth the cost between my 5th and 10th years in law. I'm over 15 and less than 20 years into my career now and have never been interviewed by a firm who has heard of or asked about NALA. I also only have met 1 paralegal who knew what it was. I think NALA holds itself in higher regard than its actual societal value.
I attend CLEs offered by the firm and call it a day.
Agreed.. I am 30+ years experience and never felt that joining NALA was worth it.
I am a new member of NALS, and have joined a few "lunch and learn" CLE credit meetings. There are courses available, too. I have not taken any of those yet, because I am waiting for the new ceritifaction requirements to be released. In the past, I have either piggy-backed off of attorney's CLEs or have found ones relevant to my position and asked to attend.
Depending on where you live, there are professional paralegal associations who offer CLE's, at least in my area (Buffalo, NY). A couple associations here offer free CLE's to their members, and many firms will pay the association membership fee for their paralegals. That's he first place I would check.
My firms always paid for me to attend relevant attorney CLEs. Met some great people, too.

What a blessing!
I use the free on-demand CLE classes offered by the firm to the attorneys. I had to ask for access, but it was granted to me.

Wow. I have never heard of that. What a blessing!
