How many of you are ever genuinely excited about work Christmas parties? In my head, it's 'don’t beat us down all year then expect us to get excited over a party'. Am I (or I guess all the people on my team) the only one who feels this way or do we have company??

Back when they were blowouts, I loved em

You guys are still getting Christmas parties?

Honestly, I think for morale it would be worth the cost. Clients are demanding 12/27 due dates this year and everyone is extremely burned out.

It's not just you. It's you and me both :)

If the drinks are good and the music doesn’t suck, then I’m down

Hahaha word!

I loved them as a junior. We had awesome work friends and got drunk and had fun. Now it’s an obligation. And I have to listen to the opinions of drunk juniors. 😛

Perfectly worded.

We had ours already, I don’t drink anymore so it’s always a little awkward and then I bail early. At least I feel fine in the morning and I dig the free food.

like

Hahah always there for the food! I don't drink anymore either. Cheers to that. When I think about it, that's what it probably is. I don't care for the parties anymore because I'm not drunk like everybody else is.

I see it as 'it's the one day I can actually have any fun at work so I'm gonna have fun'

Except often it's not actually during working hours

like

It used to be fun. Now that we’re not allowed to have fun anymore, it’s not fun.

I think you probably both took this response too seriously. To give you a serious answer, I guess shareholder value?

I joined the party planning committee at my agency for this reason. I wanted to help make it something I would actually look forward to! It's fun to be handed a company credit card and asked to go ham and make a spectacular bash. I get to help decide theme, decor, games, prizes... It's fun if you make it fun! This year our theme is A Christmas Carol.

I would not go to a work-Christmas party if it was outside of working hours.

They should take a vote and let the employees decide. I'd personally rather have cash. Take all that party money and divide it up among the worker bees : )

Happy with career progression, always getting juicier assignments, work directly with ECDs/CCOs... am I missing something crucial? Is my case an anomaly? Or is it okay not to push for a title upgrade?

So, you’ve reached the stage of your career where you care more about cashing a fat paycheck than making “creative ads”.
