Getting my ARM designation provided a lot of great insight, but even after 12 years there's still something new to learn almost every day!
What is ARM? I have been reading a lot of ACSR commercial material and when I have a year under my belt plan on doing that.
If it were easy, AI would have replaced you.
Very good point!
Insurance changes every year. The commercial side of insurance changes more rapidly than say homeowners and auto. Drastic changes I've seen over the years has been during times of shortages, large weather events and politics. The latter being one of the most impactful. It's not a repetitious job but one that is different nearly every day.
Yes, there is something new to learn every day. There have often been times where I think, "yes, I finally got it." And then right around the corner is something new I have to learn 😆
I felt the same when I went to commercial 23 years ago. I didn't even want the job, but they closed up my personal lines area and if I wanted a job that's what they had. I hated it for a year or two and then all of a sudden I just knew what I was doing.
I feel you there, these past 6 months I have been so confused and just didn't understand how I was going to learn it all, but here recently, I feel like things are starting to click and I'm so happy. It's like a whole other language and world lol
Take every opportunity to educate yourself, classes, designations, etc. Listen to your underwriters and ask questions. They are an invaluable source of information.
It takes time to become comfortable but you will always learn something new. Ask tons of questions! As you learn, document the different processes / workflows to build a repository to refer back on. KMS is a great tool.
This is great advice. Thank you!
