That sounds like a raw deal. The "manager approval" piece shows they aren't that flexible about it. I worked in industry prior to consulting and found technology companies or organizations with multiple locations to be the most truly flexible (i.e. no comments when you WFH, or if you generally work remotely). Also, smaller firms and companies tend to be flexible since it's a "free" benefit
Huh? 9-5 M-F with no travel is not good enough for you? How much do you work now?
Evening work is not at all expected in industry. I’ve been in industry for last four years and only 20% of time have I needed to work in the evenings
That's how it is. I thought I'd have more flexibility but they stuck to the only WFH on Fridays, heading back to consulting in a couple weeks. Lasted 1 year in industry.
Good point. Let me clarify. Their stated expectation is 9-5 m-f at their office. But what anyone with any common sense knows that means is 9-5 m-f at their office and then I’ll come home and work some more in the evenings.
I don’t mind long hours. I do that now. It’s the fixation upon everyone being in a desk/at the same office that make me want to stay away from industry.
If they say 9-5 Monday through Friday, I'd be pop popping the phone into do not disturb mode from 5:01 pm Friday until 8:59 am Monday.
There would also be no evening work at all, that's just me though.
