How much would you pay a neighborhood kid (12 years old) to babysit your 5-year old for 1-2 hours? Chicago, if it helps.

I'm honestly not sure I trust a 12 year old to do that. How well do you know the kid?

like

Ah. That does change the idea for me then. I'd pay them whatever fair babysitting rate is in your area, I'm not in Chicago so I won't opine.

$20/h

I agree with EY1 and KPMG1. Good call to check with their parents so you don’t shake up the pay scale they have in their own home for chores and jobs.

We pay the neighbor 15 year old $10/ hour for babysitting

like

Or you’re a sucker for paying above market rates 😆

I’d pay around min wage for that.

If I’m ever not sure about what to do I always pay them higher and round up. I’d rather overpay some, that way when multiple requests come in, I win.

Usually $15. In HS maybe $10

Our babysitter lives in Logan square and is an undergrad right now, and only charges us $17/hr to come to us in Oak Park (which I feel is great, given she's basically an adult and also is covering her own transportation). I'd be inclined to want to pay less for a neighborhood 12 year old though, and on the presumption(like you) I'm staying close, I'd still probably think 10-12/hr

I lived in tampa in my early 20s and am now in my late 30s and looking to move back. One of the reason I left is because I felt I had too much energy for the city for a single young professional, but now husband is from there and we have a kid but we are both social people. Do you guys find it easy to meet interesting people and has the city gotten any more fun?

On his end he sees it as he’s comfortable.

My brother is going through some really intense chemo so him and his wife are often recovering at their house for a week without going out.

Since they can’t take any visitors I would love to send them some sort of at home activity kit (wine tasting or anything!) to keep them busy during these lockdown weeks.

Please share any suggestions you have below! No limits in terms of activity or budget. I have about 8-9 weeks that I plans to cover.

Thank you!

How do you handle people’s kids showing up on video meetings? Screaming, kicking, hamming it up, (wasting time.) Everyone else is coo-ing…I’m not a kids person. Heard a technique which is to drop off the call bc you “assume the call is over” (which seems like a great way to get fired especially if it’s a way higher up’s kids - plus it feels rather passive aggressive.) Thoughts?

Hi guys

This question may not be related. However I wanted to know from personal and family point of view how it is like to relocate from India and live abroad .
Let's say Family consists of husband , wife and a kid . I understand we will get good facilities, education, cleanliness , good air etc , however I wanted to check whether people gel up easily in the new environment? Don't they feel loneliness/ difficult to adjust? Do they look for similar asian nationalities to kill boredom?

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?

I am starting to question my existence in this world. I have a nice job, decent salary, i work out and eat healthy, maintain my health, read 3 to 4 books every month, dont have any personal commitments (single), in my early 30s and things cant be any better. Of course with the exception that i had a real bad break-up with my fiancé 6 months ago. And i dont have any symptoms of depression, but there are days when i just feel like what is all this for?
