Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Yes most people would stay at a current job they are familiar and comfortable with than take 10% more and have to deal with a whole new set of people and culture. Always has been this way
Tying this to loneliness is the big stretch here. People want to work with people they like.
I would assume remote work is more of a factor for the loneliness than anything else.

Ha yea this is simply working with people that you like. Not gonna lie, it does feel weirdly lonely when you are in a work environment where you don’t have anyone in your corner due to layoffs, people leaving, etc.
I don't think that could work for me. Some friend are very annoying and take out of the limit of privacy.
I meet two recently cases by my experience. One from manager and one from co-worker.
Managers have low standard and knowledge management in this segment could be disaster.
For example: Chief of finance focus on hard-working. She always work late from 8 am to 7 pm everyday. However, she don't know how to do the closing, building the budget and require every one to prove that work in many hours is mean she is a hard-working. Meanwhile the more she workes late the more electronic expense rises. And then she adjust her staffs who go home on time is not hard-working.
As assumption, a co-worker is not working as good as you. They ask for CFO to have the leader position behind you. These lead to Chief accountant and Financial Controller loose control.
This prove that CFO is the one who lack of knowledge about management and organization. Then she reportes that she is proving she is humanity. CFO need humanity or principals.
In conclusion, one mistaken in trust wrong people can ruin your career meanwhile most of working environment is need attitude to be harmony.
