How to deal with annoying insureds who want to micromanage the defense of the case? I’m an associate at an ID firm and submitted draft interrogatory responses to the insured and he’s bitching and moaning asking why I’m not objecting to some of the questions.

Is the insured an attorney? Tell the adjuster to talk to them and get them in check. People tend to think the legal system is what they see on TV. As an adjuster, I would tell them to clear out any preconceived notions about how this was going to go. This was not going to be a dramatic Matlock, Law and Order, Boston Legal, LA Law situation. 99-100 cases don’t make it to trial and for good reason.

He’s not. He’s also bitching about sentence structure too

funny

Who cares. Just explain to them your logic and answer their questions. You can bill for it anyway.

like

Drop them. Lol

Just bill him for every interaction and change.

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
