A bunch of adult children invent things and ideas for things and bring them to the Creative Director. Depending on the number of ex spouses, hour of day, and whether or not they've just seen an unrelated meme they disagree with, the CD will then proceed to welcome and help grow the ideas, or they will shove them into the garbage disposal and light the whole house on fire while chanting obscenities.
Explain it like you would to a client

Create a brief for the class and have them come up with ideas that you can kill. Say your job is to catch and kill dreams.
So dark. But so spot on.
It's hard to describe the role to children if they don't understand the industry.
Introduce them to the concept of advertising and why it's vital for business. Bring examples of competing brands so it's easy for them to grasp the concept of brands having a unique voice and position.
Let the class pick which brands they prefer and split them up. Let the group that chose brand A be the target and let the group that chose brand B be the ad agency.
Then make the kids from group B come up with ideas to convince group A why they should try their brand.
As they come up with ideas explain to them that the role of the creative director is to guide the group to come up with the best ideas to convince group A to switch to brand B.
I've done this exact same exercise my daughters elementary school. kids are able to grasp complex concepts if it's presented in certain way. You can't just go up to a class and talk, that'll bore them, you have to make them physically participate by turning the presentation into a fun game and have them role play with one another for it to resonate. They'll tell you what's cool and not cool and why, and I guarantee some of their answers will surprise you how aware they are about brands and how each have a different personality.
Kids are very opinionated with things they are into and try to convince their friends all the time to like things. That's what we do in a nutshell, our job is to convince people to make decisions with their time and money.
Point to their teacher.

Making decisions. Play two commercials and point out that someone made different choices about them— whether its inside or outside...whos in the commercial, what do they wear...when do the words on the screen come in, what color is the background...stuff like that.
