In the end it's your choice but I'd find it incredibly unprofessional if I gave someone exactly the compensation they asked for and then they came back later and asked for even more.
My next questions would be "what if I accept this, do they raise the ask again?"
"Did they do the research beforehand to know their worth or did they base it off my reaction?"
"Will they negotiate this way on the job - reach an agreement and alter it later?
Maybe these questions aren't fair in your case, but it's what I'd be asking. From my point of view, you started high and expected to be negotiated down. Instead you got a higher compensation than you expected. Take the win.
I used Levels.fyi and other sources online. Pretty much aggregate all the stories and data points and normalize by where on the band I was in my previous position. Worked fairly well and pushed me into 90% band penetration.
my instinct is to say no, don't push your luck but I'm also a woman and these things stress me out
It is done. Get it off your mind and don't sabotage your progress. Be grateful always.
First of all, congrats on getting the salary you asked for and for stepping out of your comfort zone, you should be really proud of yourself! 👏 I’d just let it be now; I wouldn’t risk trying to counter again.
Take the win. Many people right now are taking salary cuts and having trouble finding jobs. If you got what you asked for, consider it a positive and don't burn a bridge by going back on your word. That said, it's a lesson for your next negotiation.
It’s normal and human to feel this way. Reminds me of trading options in the stock market. When I have a good win, I think to myself, should I have used a larger position size in this trade to create even more earnings? However, whenever I actually do that it doesn’t work out well. When I take on too big of a trade, I am out of comfort zone and don’t make clear decisions. If you keep upping your salary, you’ll be under tremendous pressure to perform. Right now you’re in a good spot.
Don’t sweat it. They may just be a great team that saw your potential. I would do my best to forget it. Imagine the roles were reversed and the candidate came back after saying they would accept x amount and told you they wanted more, it would seem like a slap in the face and that they were ungrateful. Someone could have liked you so much that they went to bat with their company’s compensation team for you. Forget it and prove you are worth way more. I would not chance starting off on the wrong foot in this scenario. It may just be a great opportunity. You said you aimed super high so show them that you are worth even more.

No, they already accepted your counter. If you counter again, that’s not a very good sign of character. If it were me and you counter again when I accepted your offer already, I would just take my offer off the table and move on to the next candidate.
You can choose to be anxious about some hypothetical, or you can choose to be thankful for what you have. Either way, you don't live in a hypothetical universe: You live in the here and now. Which here and now do you choose?
Always ask what their pay range for the position is when they ask you that. That way you don't low ball yourself.
Always go for the Ridiculous Rate: the highest number you can say out loud to them without literally laughing! I think this time you've made your bed - I wouldn't go back and ask for more when they've literally delivered on what you've asked for.
Never. Do a kick ass job. Make a trusting relationship and culture the relationship with your superior. Have at least monthly meeting to speak about your performance and a speak about the roadmap for your future. In 11 months give subtle verbal cues that you are being hunted by recruiters. 1 week later ask to sit down and ask what their plan is for you. Don't say anything about having another offer. Keep it professional. If your very good at what you do and they value you depending on size of org you will get a promotion or solid raise within a month of that meeting.

There are so many “what ifs” with these situations. I hate it. But glad it worked out for you. I think I agree with everyone in saying you should accept. Then when you have a performance review and have done your research, you can ask for a raise.
You countered and they said yes - get to work.
