We have quite a few former paralegals at my department, but I will say most start at an assistant, not coordinator level especially if not coming from BigLaw. I doubt it’s the salary ask and more potentially your recent experience being at a very small firm.

$80,000 is reasonable for a Coordinator in NYC with 3.5 years of experience. My advice would be to come into the interviews with a portfolio of your work. I would also add a brief paragraph on your resume explaining your skill set and your desire to get into LM/BD. Law firms look for professionals with marketing skills and legal knowledge. I know applying can be humbling at times, so just keep reminding yourself of your worth! Also, I would consider pitching your Managing Partner or the powers the idea of changing your title to Marketing Manager. It is less uncommon than you would think.
Great suggestions. I agree.
Not sure about the salary request. I live in a medium sized town in NC and that would be out of alignment for a coordinator role.
In New York, firms are required to list the salary range of the position they are posting. Take a look through postings at the coordinator level. If you are not in a high cost of living area it will not be exact to what New York is but it will give you an idea. If they are making $80k in New York and you live in Minnesota, then you are probably out of range with your salary requirement.
I think having legal experience is helpful. Keep applying. You will find a fit.
I think it is your lack of biglaw experience, your salary is in range in my experience.
