I am an ESL and I feel like I am always struggling to communicate effectively. Any recommendations on books and courses to improve my verbal communication skills??

One trick I learned is that if you’re not used to thinking to yourself in English than it will take you longer to be familiar with the language. Maybe start my thinking internally more so in English than your native language if you haven’t already.

To this point, how immersive are you in the English language? Is your phone set to your native language? Are you reading books and articles in your native language? Do you watch TV in your native language? etc. Might want to try being as fully immersive flas possible for 6 weeks or so and see if that helps.

I'm an introverted person, like to keep to myself, focus on work, spend the rest of my time on family, gym etc. I've been told that I need to work on my communication and client relationship building skills. any books I can read? I don't follow pop. culture anymore, no longer actively follow team sports (but sporty myself) as I consider it bread and circus for the masses and don't rly enjoy work drinks... Am I doomed? Personally I am happy and love the work but fear for my career progression.

How are layoffs decided at B4 and Midtier? Is it from on high (i.e. your utilization and outlook is shit). Is it the partner(s) you work under being like oh yeah fuck this guy, let him go and let's keep Debby who hasn't billed dick in a dick year. Just curious. Recently promoted, but drunkenly pessimistic.

It’s even worse if I’m a new employee, cuz it’s like, are you on lunch or are you working?? Can I ask you a question or not? I always take my lunches away from my desk and other people who didn’t volunteer to smell it. Anyway though. What bugs you?

I’m looking at lateral offers from Gunderson and Goodwin (both east coast). I want to focus on VC/EC clients. I know both are well known in the area, but which is better? I know Gunderson is known for more early stage work, but is there a benefit to being at a full service firm like Goodwin when I know that what I’m looking for will be at Gunderson?
