I am back looking for jobs but I haven't had any luck in my local market. I am debating on searching in the next big market which is 2 hours away. Do you guys think that is an unreasonable commute? I wish it had more remote days but I really need this experience if even for a year then search again. What do you all think?

Two hours each way will be brutal after a while… have you considered moving closer to that market?

like

Yeah, that makes it difficult… I see your dilemma… I guess you need to do what you need to do… while it’s not ideal, if it keeps the family dynamic intact, it would be worth it…

Nobody said that this job needs to last forever… or maybe suck it up for a couple of years for your son, then move closer…

Personally, I wouldn't even consider it. I would rather take a significant pay cut than give up that much personal time every day.

like

I feel like I'm already underpaid so a pay cut wouldn't work lol.. I understand your point though, thank you

I would personally not be willing to commute for 20 hours per week. But I guess you have to decide if it's worth it to you. Would you be driving or taking a train?

Driving and it would be every other week

Started at a big firm in July with high hopes- in the career path I wanted and I would be joining with other new grads.
After onboarding, it’s as if my team forgets about us every day. The training is non existent, there doesn’t seem to be any initiative to invest in new hires, my manager scolds me for not knowing enough yet gives no direction. I don’t want to waste time (colleagues mentioned it doesn’t get much better from here). Do I embrace the suck or look for other opportunities?

Anyone else finding it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of account management these days? Any coping tips? I feel like being an account person is especially difficult in the COVID era since so much of what we do is manage communications, ensure the team is set up well etc. None of this feels particularly fun alone staring into the void of Zoom all day ... but the same pressure is still there. I feel like I spend every week counting down to the weekend which kinda sucks.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
