Not involved at all with after school stuff. I stay after school to help students with homework / after school tutoring. If not, I spend time grading, planning, making copies. I try to stay focused on, you know, our job as a teacher. 🤷♀️

I don’t do any after school events that are not in my contract. Elementary school is different than middle school- no sports! We can run enrichment classes but that is optional. At this point in my life, I am striving for work- life balance, so I set a firm schedule, leave work at work, and go home to do other things. I used to make work my entire life and it led to a lot of problems for me and missed time with my kids. It is ok to say no and prioritize yourself.

I find that the little pay wasn’t a trade off for the lost time and added stress.
