Bull city wood shop has some adult classes. For something more intensive look at carpentry classes at a community college like WakeTech or Durham CC. I’m not skilled in carpentry but I’m pretty handy and I just started doing stuff and watching videos and tutorials and learning by messing up but not quitting. You can also volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and pick up skills.
What do you mean by “build”? Do you want to do the framing and construction of the actual building, or do you want to fit out the insides or both?
Rough framing is relatively simple, but you need to know building practices/codes. (And how to read/draw plans and get them approved, then inspections.) There are books that will walk you through the process. And if you need practice cutting wood and hanmering nails, I have a lot for you to do. 🤣. Plumbing is pretty easy with Pex and the fancy new connections, and run i electrical cables isn’t hard.
Oh yeah nothing too fancy. Just want to be self sufficient and get most of the basics right. Hence the 3 year time horizon. Could be 5.
