I am looking to move up in my company, but it seems impossible. What do you do to set yourself apart from others when you work at a relatively large place of work? When I worked at smaller companies this was way easier.

It is not impossible if you are determined to put in the effort.

When you say you want to move up, what does that look like for you? Does it mean having an engineering job role with more senior titles / more money? Does it look like moving through the managerial ranks? Do you have C suite ambitions?

Once you know the answer to those questions, you should find one or more willing mentors who are on that career path and learn from them. In parallel, you should share your career goals with your manager. If they are a good manager, they will be willing to help get you where you want to go.

Beyond that, always document your work and make sure that your manager knows the impact you are having. Make sure your work is visible to others so that they see your value. Don’t wait for work to be assigned to you, but be proactive in improving processes and solving problems. In short, take the initiative to make yourself into a valuable resource.

You have to make yourself irreplaceble and then learn skills outside of your position. Keep going. They will recognize that your skill now makes you a top candidate for other top positions. Because you know your stuff, but now you know their stuff. Also make it known to your manager or boss that you want to move up.

By doing something either better than someone else, doing something that someone else hadn't thought of, or simply making your boss like you more.

Have you tried sitting down with your manager to outline what it would take to get to the next level? That would be the first thing I would do because they can help you pinpoint exactly what you need to do in order to make it to that next level.

Hey guys, need some advice. I was fortunate enough to get the Consortium fellowship at Ross but am also stuck on the CBS waitlist and am still planning to apply to Wharton in R3. Assuming I get into CBS/Wharton, is there that much of a difference between them to forgo scholarship money? For context, I want to get into product management at FAANG/fintech with pursuing MBB as a plan B. Thanks in advance!

Lyft driver delayed picking me up 30 min, resulting in me canceling my ride and asking hotel to call me a “yellow taxi” to get to the airport because it was 5am and all ubers/lyfts were 15 min. Specifically said yellow. Hotel calls me a private lux SUV and the driver got out of the car to handshake the man who called and said hi (honestly money couldve been passed). I then get hit with a $180 ride. Marriott website says taxi should be $65. Should I complain or let it go?

Hi guys, Could you please help me out on what to be filled here, I've 3 years of experience and I don't think I would be falling under gratuity that will be '0'. But I'm not sure of what to be filled on "Leave Encashment Exemption". I've 170 hours of leave balance. My HRBP dose not respond at all I've been trying to contact her from weeks and there's no response to any of mails nor pings on teams. I really appreciate you for helping me fill this?
