It is not impossible if you are determined to put in the effort.
When you say you want to move up, what does that look like for you? Does it mean having an engineering job role with more senior titles / more money? Does it look like moving through the managerial ranks? Do you have C suite ambitions?
Once you know the answer to those questions, you should find one or more willing mentors who are on that career path and learn from them. In parallel, you should share your career goals with your manager. If they are a good manager, they will be willing to help get you where you want to go.
Beyond that, always document your work and make sure that your manager knows the impact you are having. Make sure your work is visible to others so that they see your value. Don’t wait for work to be assigned to you, but be proactive in improving processes and solving problems. In short, take the initiative to make yourself into a valuable resource.
You have to make yourself irreplaceble and then learn skills outside of your position. Keep going. They will recognize that your skill now makes you a top candidate for other top positions. Because you know your stuff, but now you know their stuff. Also make it known to your manager or boss that you want to move up.

By doing something either better than someone else, doing something that someone else hadn't thought of, or simply making your boss like you more.
Have you tried sitting down with your manager to outline what it would take to get to the next level? That would be the first thing I would do because they can help you pinpoint exactly what you need to do in order to make it to that next level.
