Join the club buddy, I’m in FAAS and I’ll give you the news I wish I got when I was an early FAAS senior…FAAS is just glorified audit. You may not think that but in the eyes of outsiders the exit ops don’t look drastically different than audit.
Bro chill, all accounting in some way circles back to being basically the other side of the audit coin. It’s all accounting, but it doesn’t mean the overall atmosphere isn’t still leaps and bounds better than audit.

I’ve seen way better exits from AAS than audit. FP&A shouldn’t be difficult, I know seniors through directors that have gone to $100B+ public’s and retained their title.
If you treat your experience like a glorified auditor, your exits will follow that path. If you learn about commercial issues and network, you’ll have far greater opportunities. Find something you’re interested in first and then figure out how to pursue it. Don’t let a bunch of strangers tell you you’re pigeonholed to audit exits
Overall, FAAS exits mostly overlap with audit—in the company’s eyes, it doesn’t really differ between the two. I think the comment above was trying to say don’t think of FAAS being superior with better exit opportunities.
If you want to go do FP&A, LEAVE NOW! So you can become a financial analyst in FP&A. Don't wait until you become a manager like me and no one would hire you as an FP&A manager who only have public accounting experience. You'll have to step down from manager and get some FP&A experience first which means lower pay because you would work as a financial analyst/senior though you were a manager. Tell me I'm wrong but that's what I've been told by head hunters when I was looking for a job in FP&A as an audit manager with 7+ years of work experience 🤣so I'm stuck in public accounting... For now
Yes that's what I heard. My friend in FP&A said its never too late to get in it even when you get to a position that have over 20+ years of experience that's not in FP&A. But it's not easy to do that without stepping down from the title. It's possible but not easy.
My post is funny? I appreciate all insight even if it’s to point out my ignorance.
Honestly, the exposure is so broad in FAAS that I think you could rearrange your resume to branch into anything in accounting. Especially if you’re a CPA and have big 4 experience, that tells employers enough to know that you’re capable. Your post sounds like you’d definitely be a good fit for an FP&A role, just apply. Good luck!

What is your role? Are you on a specific data analytics team or something? Obviously look into that. Only way to tell is to apply to roles and see what you get. Don’t limit yourself
I’m currently in corp finance (doing Corp Fin, FP&A, and a bit of strategic fin)and came from audit. Will say the P&L analysis, data cleansing and presentation are great skills for the transition; however the market is really bad right now. You might need to apply to smaller companies rather than F500s if you do want to make the transition.
