That’s rough and I’m super excited to see that you took steps to ensure that will not be under valued or under compensated by moving on to a place that will pay you more. When was the last time you heard from this new job? HR approval can take a couple of weeks (depending on the organization)
Burn out is no joke and it sounds like that’s where you are. Since taking time off is out of the equation right now, I’d suggest giving yourself a later start date at the new job and use that extra time to decompress between gigs. Another option I would suggest (only if you’re comfortable with it) is to talk to therapist about your issues. You could possible be able to go on a medical leave of absence to regroup. Finally I’d work on reframing you perspective around your resentment. I know it sucks to find out that you’re being undervalued but they just made space for you to make go somewhere else and get more. You’ll also be having new experiences at this new job that could potentially benefit you with your business. 😊
Thank you for the kind words. I have definitely been trying to think of ways to reframe. The difficulty with the offer on the table is they don't know if they will get anything this year. I keep in touch with the team and the recruiter and they repeatedly said they will move forward as soon as they have approval from the CFO. It felt like an amazing fit and I want to hope that it will come through, but they can't commit to a start date. I'm not willing to take a bad jump because besides being underpaid, everything about my job is great.
I work from home so I have definitely been thinking about building in a therapy appointment and trying to use my time around the house to take care of chores so my weekends are free.
I definitely plan to put some time between the jobs when I get a start date, but it's difficult with this much uncertainty.
1) are you taking at least 1 day off a week to do nothing tied to work or that freelance thing?
2) have you had some blood work done recently? You could have low iron or vitamin d.
Yes I had blood work done before I started going to the gym regularly. I did have low vitamin D but I've corrected that since and my thyroid was fine.
Saturday is my rest day where I visit my mom and we do stuff together, but it's not really a full decompression day. I requested a week off work at Labor Day and I will just go negative on PTO because I really need a break.
I find as I get older I need to allocate my energy to avoid burnout. Invest it in things that yield positive results and don’t waste it on trivial things unless it brings you joy. Also people can really drain your energy if you are not careful. Good vibes vs bad vibes.
I needed to get done. I have a wonderful team and my regular full-time job doesn't take much energy, but ever since I found out I'm paid significantly less than the last person in the role, I've had trouble giving a shit.
I let my boss know that I'm aware that I'm under compensated. I have a pending offer from another company that can't move forward until they get approval for head count. So in the current economic state, I don't know how long that's going to take.
Ideally I would take about a week off just to decompress, but I don't have the PTO. Wondering about techniques for handling burnout because the day here and there is not cutting it for me anymore. I don't do well when I'm having to mark time.
If anyone's curious, it was a vitamin b deficiency. Started taking that and some elderberry and I don't have the energy crash anymore.
