If you've had or are able to obtain a TS or higher security clearance, and get a Security+ certificatiion, you can apply with federal contracting companies like Mantech, GDIT, CACI, Exeter, etc.
Second this, I work for GDIT, not in cyber but I get the open requisitions report, usually a couple remote cyber jobs on there. Good tip is start reaching out to people in these companies now, LInkedIn is a good resource. All these type companies are like 50% veterans so someone will talk to you.
Start looking at job postings and see what the standard is for certifications and requirements. they can often change and if it’s something you can get the military to pay for while your still in, more power to you. start networking and making connections with people working contracts that can lead to a referral or even a job in itself.
Do you have at least 10 months left? Consider the Skillbridge program which allows you to do an internship while still on active duty. I used Skillbridge to get hired by CBP and back into GS land. Hit me up if you'd like to know more. https://www.linkedin.com/in/charles-viney
Look up Veterans Transition Services, they offer some classes you can sign up for on their calendar, low cost and some free, also they offer a 1 year free subscription to Coursrea so you can get industry specific certifications for free to build your resume. GL.
Also, if there are courses that you may need that cant be accomplished there, check your branches COOL website. Lots of certifications could be fully or partially funded that way as well. i wish i would have known this before i was on terminal leave.

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement and completing your Master’s.
What helped most was starting early, networking with veterans already in the field, and translating military experience into civilian terms. Security+, CISSP/CISM, and hands-on experience with NIST, RMF, cloud security, and incident response mattered most in interviews.
My biggest tip: get your resume reviewed by a civilian, document your projects now, and be patient with federal hiring timelines.
I completely understand how overwhelming transitioning out of the military can feel. I was in a similar situation, moving into civilian roles after service and trying to figure out how to position my skills. What really helped me was being referred to a professional job search specialist who guided me on highlighting military experience, targeting the right roles, and preparing for interviews.
