Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Right there with you. Booked some informational calls with former colleagues who went client / platform side…just to feel like I’m taking some actionable step and trying to gauge if life would be better outside consulting.
Your description could be me. PS seems to have a good approach. I’ve also started the hunt for a therapist. While my job is overwhelming I’ve also never been happy in positions where I wasn’t challenged or where the pace was slower. Feel like I’ve thrived in high pressure environments and don’t know what to do with myself when that’s not the case.
I hear you! What a year! And women have being the ones pounded down to the ground. We are expected to do it all.
Your mental health is so important for your kids. I like the idea of having informational meetings, start researching in case you want to take action. The more control of the situation you can have the less desperate you might feel.
What is wild in this scenario is I try to take calls via only dialing in and getting in a walk and inevitably I have to get on my screen to look at a screen or screen share. And then tactic 2 is meeting with my therapist but only on doxee and not in person is yet another zoom call and causing even more anxiety and fatigue.
Indeed - it is so tough to get away from screens. I feel the need to change the organizational culture itself to make it a norm that some meetings are “screen-free” by intent.
I go walking on zoom meeting conference calls. I call them conference walks. I encourage my team to do the same. If we don’t have to be on a face call, and it’s a status, checkin or brainstorm. Walk take notes, change the scene, you can’t be spinning all the plates all the time.
My youngest is in daycare 3 days a week. If not I would have not managed or maybe divorced.
I talk to a therapist 2 times a month now.
Life is hard, being a parent in advertising is hard, being a mother in advertising is harder still. Delegate if you can when you need to. x
Thanks for sharing how you are managing and for your perspective overall. Indeed, it is tough. Walking meetings are now on my list of tactics to try.
Also, if this sounds familiar, how are you managing?
Good point, PS 1! Maybe going client-side can bring better balance.
