Good you're biting the bullet and talking to them about it. What worked for me was 'telling' them about my white gf vs. asking for permission to be with her. Make it clear that this is not to make them unhappy and that white ppl are not evil, assuming that's what they think. My folks are super conservative and it took a couple of long and tough phone calls to get some semblance of acceptance. All the best and stay strong!
I'd actually brought this up the first time when I visited them coz these things are better handled in person. The phone call negotiations were to inform them of us moving in together. Didn't wanna hide something I'm not ashamed of. TBH, I was fully prepared to be disowned, which hasn't happened yet lol
I told my folks that I had strong feelings for a girl who was an architect and went to grad school with me and also came from a good family. I presented all the positives and st the end mentioned her nationality (not her race/skin colour). After all the positives I mentioned, they didn't have much to say about her race. 3 calls later, she and my mum were texting.
This. Indian here who was dating a Pakistani. I started off by talking about things like their attributes, family and educational background etc. By the time the nationality came up, they were already positively inclined.

Lol I’m telling mine about my white gf this weekend, I wish us both luck.
I think most Desi parents are worried about stability of marriage thanks to all the stereotypes about the US that exists in India(I personally don’t buy all those). It would help to have your thoughts ready about stability of marriage with a western guy if your parents bring that up.
God bless ya !
