I did a 15 minute interview for a dental office interview on the phone for a receptionist. I’ve done a little bit everything in my father’s dental office, except handle patients dental insurance. That’s a weakness skill for me, it’s difficult for me to explain to patients how their insurance works. I don’t know how other dental offices work, but are there some offices that hire people to handle only insurance?

There are definitely offices that hire people to work only in insurance. At my company, we have a business office, and those people do all the insurance pieces. It really depends on the company and how big they are.

like

I’m sure that why I didn’t get hired tho. Thats ok tho, if I can find something that doesn’t entail me to handle insurance or sales, that’d be good.

Dental insurance can be confusing at first, even for experienced staff. Many offices expect new receptionists to learn it on the job. Online tutorials or short dental billing courses can help you build confidence explaining coverage.

like

I think that is something you can learn on the job, depending on the workplace.

like

Well like I said, I’m sure that’s why I didn’t get hired.

Is your dad hiring? Could you perhaps learn from his staff? I would always say in an interview you are eager to learn and bring your own notebook and take notes. Do not talk about difficulties you want to stand out as a team player. You should also have some great follow up questions for them. After the interview make sure you send them a very kind interview of thank you. Give them some time, wait about 4 days before checking on job. Zoom calls people should still be professionally groomed and proper attire.
Good luck to you. 😊

My son is a dentist and he learned all the codes and insurance. I would take the job. Someone has to teach you which makes your resume look better once you learn it.

I applied and after I talked to her in the 15 mins. Two days later I got a message that they were gonna move forward in finding someone else for the job.

I have also considered a sales analyst role considering that I am moderately versed in Salesforce and have worked both the customer facing and sales generating side. TIA!
