I don’t know how anyone really double dips. It’s terrifying and psychologically so difficult. Sure it’s great money but at what cost? Your mental health and a life outside of work are just worth so much more than money.

To me it’s the opposite. It makes me better at my job, calmer and way more relaxed. I can make tough choices and be as bold as I want since I know I have a safety net. Money atm is secondary, to me (luckily)

I agree but when you’re trying to make up for months of not working, it’s worth it. And when it does work out, it’s weirdly satisfying and addicting.

likesmart

Haha I have to stop myself from doing that

like

You don’t have to do it forever just sacrifice a year or two and make a decent investment w the extra cash

When I was FT, I was put on 5+ projects at a time regularly. the schedule conflicts can get stressful but workload wise double dipping is significantly easier.

like

This.

Says the freelancer with no mortgage and college tuition to pay.

I've been doing it regularly for two years and it mostly just works out. You need both gigs to be remote and you block off your calendars for the other job's meetings, but otherwise most work tends to be chill and you just get it done. Yes there have been a few stressful situations but it's worth the $$$.

likeuplifting

That is key! But these days the gigs seem to always be pitches.

like

True. I did it for a while and it shattered my nerves. That said, omg the money is just wonderful.

like

Yeah, it’s really hard. I have double and even triple dipped. Was not a fun person to be around, but sometimes things out of your control happen and more money is a “need” thing. Consider yourself lucky to have the option.

like

Agree. I used to do it a bunch and now I find it too stressful.

like

It's not that hard. The only real danger is the potential that you get two meetings scheduled at the same time. And if that happens as long as they are not both big presentations you are supposed to give personally, you mostly can just tell one of them you can't make it. Triple and quadruple gets really crazy (I have done it a few times) but I would double all year long if I could get the work.

like

I agree with OP. I’ve tried it a couple times and regretted it every single time. I also feel like even when I move meetings for a legit reason, like a doc appointment, I fear everyone automatically suspects I could be double dipping. And I like to give even the smallest gigs 100% of my energy because it leads to better relationships.

like

Some people only do Q1 & Q4! I guess if you’re making enough to take the summer off why not! Some contracts are really seasonal only.

I never double dip on projects that demand full-time hours (like a pitch sprint) — too stressful and time-intensive. But if I’m working hourly on something steady and predictable, under ~30 hours a week, I’m open to layering in another part-time project. For me, it really comes down to having a good sense of a project’s pace — and if that pace is unclear, I don’t risk stacking projects for my own sanity.
