I'm in a similar position except I've been told informally that the company wants me out, and I have a bit less experience than you. I'm thinking about taking a year off to focus on my health, learn a new language, volunteer, and travel. Maybe take some short-term contract jobs if I need money or am bored, if I can find a way to do that.
Maybe quiet quit and start looking/really planning? I feel like I’m getting close to that. I’m not sure I want partner at this firm (honestly not sure I want it at all). Ive always been so focused on doing a good job and moving up the levels that I don’t know what I want anymore. We have enough saved for me to take a few months off and reset, but not much more than that.
That definitely sounds like you are being pushed out to me. It sounds like you are miserable there as is. I think it is time to start looking for something new.
I agree. I’m not a low performer by any means, I’m above average, but definitely also not the top. I’m personally burnt out as heck and always feel like every “bad” day I have is just being stacked against me.
At the SM level it's even more important to have someone high up looking out for you.
My recommendation, come up with a plan to get one. Set specific steps and a timeline. Then work hard to make it happen. If it doesn't happen in the timeline, move on. The timeline is really important because it stops you from being stuck in confusion for years.
Definitely. I’m a newer senior manager and had a really good mentor until recently. I still keep in touch with them but since they’re no longer at the firm, it’s not the same. I do have a fair relationship with a few others, but none I can have a real conversation with. Not sure where to go to find a new solid mentor.
Yea, depending on the firm senior manager can be a bit up or out.

How hard would it be to find somewhere new? People always have this tough it out mentality which is sometimes good, but often, a new start might be best for all involved. Sometimes enough people change that it's just not as good a fit anymore.
There's a lot of great people and companies to work for out there, no point being miserable.
Not opposed to something new at all. But no idea where to start. I don’t necessarily want to do what I’m doing forever.
I feel like I’m being pushed out. I feel like everything I used to be involved in is slipping away and I’m generally less connected. I am still busy and generally still involved in things, just feels less than before. I really don’t have an internal mentor anymore (they left the firm over a year ago and it’s been tough to find someone since). It don’t help that I am burnt out and tired, but idk what to do anymore.
