Too early to ask for a raise as you joined only 4months back. The assumption is that you got a fair wage for your title/experience at the time hence you’d need to wait for the next cycle. Would advice to have a salary-expectations discussion approx 1-2 months before the next salary review cycle
Disagree. It’s all the way you phrase it. Most managers have to start budgeting for the next year, so just start planting seeds. “I’d like to make this much by next year how can WE get me there?” It’s not a “I need this right now or I’m leaving” it’s an “I’m a high performer and I’m looking to my future here and this is how you keep me.”
Also anyone who is “LIVID” when it comes to discussing money in an open, honest and nonemotional way is a huge red flag and not someone I’d want to be working for.
Companies will do literally anything to not pay you more. You’ve already proven you’re willing to go above and beyond for this salary so why would they pay more, don’t take it personally! It’s literally just numbers. The best way to get a raise is job hop. The second way is promotion. Definitely start looking. But also speak with your manager about it and say “I’d like to work toward XX position in XX timeline, does this sound feasible to you and how can I get there? What milestones do I need to hit?” Then set specific goals and meet them. You need a paper trail to warrant any raise/promotion always. And you need a manager who advocates for you.
Thing is i just started 4 months ago, i needed to leave my previous company ASAP. I tried negotiating but no luck. I'm definitely going to ask what what you suggested. Thank you so much
Have you done a salary comparison for your role on glassdoor? You need data to back up your request when you’re ready to make it. And since they wouldn’t let you negotiate your entry pay, you may not even be where you’re supposed to be now. Do you know the salary range for your position now?
I got very anxious and to be honest i was about to cry. I couldn't argue that in my reviews they said that I was overperforming. The guy who gave me that review was in that meeting
What do I do? I'm very angry and very sad.
