I have 24 years at the bedside and just finished my MSN, but I'm stuck on whether to go for my NP. My main concern is that I only have about 9 years left before I retire. I'm thinking I might be starting too far along to actually see a return on the investment, but I'm not sure. Is the stress and tuition worth it this late in the game?

I am looking for another job and want to comment on a company I recently applied. I went through an interview and was given an offer letter. Later that night was called by someone else who started talking about working in another area of the county as a home health nurse. I told her I had my area assigned. She called back and said she was sorry and didn’t know. So at that time I guess they decided to withdraw my offer as they didn’t have client in the area. I didn’t know they withdrew the offer and was waiting for the background check to go through. I tried getting ahold of the HR person and she told me she sent a letter through ADP, which I didn’t have access to, then tells me not to call around ….. I know they did me a favor because it seemed they were very disorganized. I was shocked at the how I was treated.

I don't know that I would do it unless your company is paying for it. There are hospitals that will pay for it or at least part of it though, so I would look into it. Otherwise, I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

I think if you are a NP you might want to stay in nursing.
