That’s a tough spot, but that's a smart move. I’d go with gentle but direct: “I’ve read some mixed things about sales environments in the industry: how would you say your team handles pressure and collaboration?” It gives space for honesty. At least you can see their reaction, and you can tell by yourself if that's the vibe you want. You have to interview them as much as they interview you.
A great question when you are meeting with the hiring manager is to ask, “What is your current team culture and what type of a culture are you trying to build”
I have found the culture set by your manager and their leadership as much the sales culture as an overarching corporate culture. I have worked places with a terrible culture locally but seemingly good corporate culture and vice versa.
Also, every manager loves to talk about the culture they are trying to build
Its a must to read Glassdoor company reviews. I have cancelled some interviews based on their reviews. I figure why bite the bullet.
I would absolutely bring them up, professionally, of course. I think it shows that you've done your research on the company, but that you're also ensuring a positive work environment. I would casually bring it up when the time was right, even if that meant at the end of the interview when they open it up to questions. I'd mention researching the company and seeing these reviews and asking if it is something the company is aware of and their thoughts.
