Just stop trying at the current job and look for a new job. Make them fire you
Why on earth would you want to be fired? This is your work life reputation that follows you.
If you are not happy or progressing on a good path, make the decision to find another company. Then, before starting take time off to refresh and reset.
If your company offers severance or transition of any kind (which I assume they do), make them let you go. Don't quit.
1) Figure out what work level is tolerable for you and put up boundaries that will help you get there. Don't compromise.
2) With your time back, start networking. Lay the foundation for your job search. Don't bother much with cold applying.
3) At a certain point, they will either get sick of your quiet quitting and let you go with severance, or you'll hang on long enough and secure a job before they do. If the former, you can now run a full career search on their dime, not yours. Either way, you haven't had to touch your savings.
I just did something similar. Was laid off in a March reorg and received three months' transition time at full pay. The transition period ended yesterday, and I have two offers on the table, so I'll only have to use 2-3 weeks of savings. Not quitting was the best decision I made.
Can we switch? Been unemployed for 1 year and would love full time work. You can have your job back if you don’t find anything.
Interesting
Smartest guy I know, former SVP of a big tech company, has been unemployed for going on 2 years. He’s run $B global teams. I know several other SD/VP levels going on 1 year unemployed. Hold on to that job for dear life, OP.
Take time off, too. You sound super burned out. But yeah, stop trying and look for another job
Go on a leave of absence. Go to a therapist/psychiatrist and discuss so that you can get paid
I feel you. You are me. There are many of us out there. My thought at this point is that we don’t know what life will be like, but with our skills and talents, we will be more than okie. After, this bonus cycle, I too will cut the cord and walk into the unknown, freedom. It will be so refreshing to not have to do anything.
Where are you? Can you take stress disability leave so you have some income as you recover?
What in the Gen Z is this?
Rising Star
How about an extended vacation, sabbatical or medical LOA? It’s a tough job market, it can take 6-12 months to land another job . It may be more stressful.
There are so many articles on not quitting in this market. Take time to recalibrate and rest.
Rising Star
Be careful/thoughtful about the next step. I’d really try to stay employed, land a job you enjoy, negotiate a later start.
Your savings when young have a HUGE impact on your savings at retirement. No way to exaggerate that.
don't quit unless you have sufficient savings. Use them until you leave.
DM me
How easily can you get back into this role?
Not sure. I think I am overpaid compared to what I see in the market, so would probably need to take a 10-15% paycut if I tried to get back.
Clearly your work very hard, why not milk it a little bit and find a roll that meets your needs and you’re excited about. Then leave
Do the bare minimum while you find your passion. I'm in the same boat, but don't have near enough to keep me afloat for that long.
You won’t do it
Reverse psychology before the peanut gallery goes HAM
Get a burn out diagnosis and go in short term disability. You get roughly 2/3 of the pay and you can take some time to reset. Then you can burn through savings figuring it out. You’ll be okay- you have skills and even if it’s different then what you are doing the world will be as it is.
