Titles don’t matter... it’s your responsibilities and salary that make a difference as far as career progression.
Exactly same responsibility and comp
So can you negotiate the title using this offer?
Putting titles aside, what Company do you like better? What do the benefits look like (401k, health, vacation, etc.)? Which industry is most promising? Which boss will you learn from the most?
I get the want for a better title, but I’d weigh that lower than everything else. If everything else is equal, then did the first job at least give you a timeline to be promoted to a D? Ultimately, I think you can get out of it without burning a bridge, but it’ll still give you a black eye.
Are you positive you are ready for the director title? There may be additional responsibilities / accountability at that level than AD.
Title aside, who has the better team you'd be working with (above and below you) - and if not a large team, which offers better budgets and budget responsibility/ownership? That's more important than title.
The company is a smaller company and the recruiter helped me on the job also well connected in the industry that I don't want to burn bridge either
