I have been applying for jobs for over a year now. I currently work in education. I just want to find a job that is better in pay. Since I have been employed, I have not had a promotion. I have applied myself, trained other clerical staff, do more and blah blah blah. I did not realize that the job market is difficult. More than fifteen years ago, seems as though it was so much easier to get a job and or get a promotion. So good luck to anyone who is looking for something better.

I totally get it! The job market has definitely shifted, and it feels like getting a promotion or finding better opportunities takes longer than it used to. Have you considered reaching out to mentors or networking more? Sometimes those connections can open up doors that applications can't.

I am in the same situation. I work in education, Civil Service, and there are no individual raises, promotions, or anything a private company would do. Finding it hard to make the jump.

There’s no room for advancement within a school district without a higher degree.

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

Hey! I’m new here and would like some input. I’ve been working in a new position for almost 5 months. In that time I’ve witnessed some unethical and lots of unprofessional behavior. I’ve been yelled at and berated by my coworker 3 separate times because of minor errors. I’m ready to quit. There are so many major issues in this company that I don’t know if I want to subject my mental health to this degree of toxicity. I just don’t know how to move forward from here.
