ETFs will be your friend until you get a better understanding of what to look for on an individual stock.

Index funds, low fee rate, S&P 500. Congrats, you have a great return and diversified portfolio

Agree.

Many professional investors and day traders running funds can’t beat the index, what makes you think you can beat it in your spare time? For every example of someone investing in their spare time who got lucky (and is happy to blab about it like they were doing anything but gambling) there are many more people who underperformed (and keep their mouths shut or lie about it)

r/wallstreetbets for all your low risk, well planned investment strategies

Low fee ETFs. More liquid and easier to trade than mutual funds and there are a wide variety now. I’m overweight tech most of the time and it pays off.

Anyone have a lawyer or personal finance advisor they trust and recommend in NYC? Post MBA and new to the city; I need to buckle down and finally get a will and outside $ advice on taxes.

Currently 25 years old.
Goals:
* Own a home in a HCOL
* 2 kids (eventually)
* Retire at 50 on $125k/year.

Envelope math:
* $125k/year would require an investment portfolio of ~$3M.
* Targeting a $2M home (split with partner)
* 2 kids - $1M to raise both (including college fund, split with partner)
* $500K buffer for unexpected expenses
* 33% tax

Therefore, 6.5-7M retirement savings needed. To hit this (assuming 6% return after inflation), I’d need to save ~$110k/year.

How does this sound?

It's super frustrating to be "time poor".

That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Consider this…

How hard is everyone pushing their corporate clients to authorize nonresident assignees whose only 2020 US compensation was the value of their 2019 tax preparation?
My clients are pushing back on it this year, and I can't say I blame them. If I were in their shoes, I'd rather take the risk of not filing than the expense of filing again. From my own point of view, I don't really want to spend my time on such returns, either, even if the revenue and easy return are nice.

Adverse selection is a huge issue in trading. You never have perfect information and your decision won’t be perfect for the outcome. This usually means you’re too small in winners and too large in losers.

As markets crash we’re seeing something similar. People are ignoring bad outcomes when they should be working that much harder to protect previous gains and find new ideas. Lower traffic in this thread is a symptom of this phenomenon. Don’t quit just as the value of incremental effort ramps.

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments
