Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

When does the offer expire?
True
I’ve been in this circumstance several times. Go on the 2nd interview. Feel it out. It may not be as good as u think. Get all the info u can upfront about the offer. If u like Co. B tell them u have another offer and need to get back to them but that Company B is the first choice. Which is the truth.
Oops just read the expiration on the 1st company. I’d take the first job but still go to the interview. U just never know. And yes , I have done that with another offer already on the table.
I agree w the others. You owe no one anything. However, If u accept a second offer go in knowing:
- Everything you can about the 2nd company. Benefits, pay, culture, reputation etc
- The 1st company may be snooty to you. You may burn some bridges. You wil never work for them or someone in their contacts should they cross paths.
- OR They may give you a counter offer.
