It’s less hours and more pay. That is the universal answer my friend. The end.
Accurate. Also, less “personal” politics.
1. Less time chasing for work assignments/projects. As agencies have evolved over the past 25 years, everyone is spending more time on “Biz Dev”. A LOT more time. It gets old creating constant enthusiasm for the next new client.
2. Less hassle trying to get to decision makers & the info/data you need. On the client side, these two things are far more readily accessible.
3. Today, the agency scene, as a long term career path, really only makes sense if you think you could, or want, to own a significant piece of one.
Don’t go corporate, it’s a trap. You’ll be underworked and overpaid. Which at first, doesn’t seem terrible. Eventually you’ll grow tired of not being challenged and the cyclical nature of your corporate marketing job will become a daily reminder of how unfulfilled you are.
